Matty was born in Santa Clara, California, when his social activist parents relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent most of his childhood. At the age of twelve, Matty and his family relocated to the aging hippy mecca of Eugene, Oregon where he was first exposed to punk rock, Reggae, and a variety of independently produced music. When he was thirteen, he and his friends stayed up late every Friday night for KLCC’s Air Jamaica radio show and spent every afternoon taking up and playing their own instruments.
After spending some time traveling in Southern Asia, Matty studied at Evergreen State College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in ecological agriculture. He has spent the last five years living in San Francisco Bay’s East Bay Area where he started his own gardening business.
Matty’s favorite music is Reggae, though he may be found listening to anything from American cowboy songs to East Indian Bhangra. He can be contacted at matthewtice@hotmail.com.
