One of Jamaica’s biggest
stars, Sean Paul, walked away with the Best New Act of
the Year Award at the MTV Europe Awards last Thursday. Held in Edinburgh,
Scotland, Sean Paul performed the very hot combination ‘Baby Boy’
with R&B act Beyonce, before receiving the coveted award.
“I am grateful that I won the award. I feel proud, really proud
that my work was recognized,” Sean Paul shared with Jahworks.org.
And why not? The hot DJ seems to be everywhere these days.
Sean Paul is nominated for two more awards at the American Music Awards,
which is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 16. He has been nominated
for Favourite Male Artiste - Rap/Hip-Hop and Favourite Album - Hip Hop/Rap.
Jahworks.org quizzed the DJ on how he favoured his chances of winning
and he humbly replied, “I'm honoured to be asked to perform and
be nominated, so I am not focusing on winning and losing. I'm focused
on representing.”
And he has been doing that very well – representing. Right now he
seems to be the hottest dancehall commodity around and he has a very busy
schedule to prove it.
The day after the American Music Awards, Sean Paul sets off for Japan
for a three-city tour, then he will be back in the US where he is expected
to close off the year.
Throughout his career there have been detractors, many thinking he didn’t
have what it took to be a star performer. Asked if this feels like a vindication
of his talent, Sean Paul responded, “There will always be believers
and there will always be non- believers. I don't watch those that don't
believe.”
Jahworks.org couldn’t resist asking Sean Paul what it felt like
sharing the stage with the vivacious, hot American R&B performer Beyonce,
and in his own words, “I enjoyed sharing the stage with Beyonce
at the MTV Europe Awards,” but that’s not the end of their
stage performance. According to Sean Paul, they have more shows coming
up in which they are both scheduled to appear so he has other performances
to look forward to.
Sean Paul’s catapult into the international spotlight seems like
a wonder to many. Jahworks.org asked if there was a ‘formula’
that he followed to achieve this success. No such thing. The DJ explains
that, “music is unique. I don’t have a formula. I just work
with a strong team and stay close to my roots.”
