The 1st annual Worldsound Reunion that was staged at the PineCrest Country Club in Shelton, Connecticut on July 6th was a tremendous success. Blessed with beautiful sunshine throughout the entire day, people from all over the continent came out to witness this family fun day extravaganza. There were over fifty sounds that took part in the well attended event. Though things got off to a slow start, the patrons trickled in form all over to witness this first ever music and social gathering. It was truly amazing to see so many sounds/selectors working together. Though I had the hard task of coordinating the time for each sound playing, it was a smooth transition from one to the next. Many of the early sounds played for ten minutes and time increased as we go along. Black Spider started the day off and it ended with Stone Love. Jerry Springer, Fresh Int'l, Aswad, Bojangles, Satelite, Sound Melody, and Twin Thumb were all impressive in the early rounds. The day just got better as more sounds and people started coming in the venue. The vibes got bigger when two sounds started playing at different spots. Many thought the big International sounds were just gonna dominate all the others, but they were dead wrong. Regardless of what was said that day, the night belonged to Danger Zone from Miami. They ripped the place apart with the most hype and some of the best tunes. There was music from all genres that made the event so special. Clinton Sparks from Hot 93.7FM in Hartford came down and represented with some wicked R&B and hip-hop. Everyone was in a frenzy when Body Guard was selecting and was joined by Stone Love. The patrons loved it--two of the biggest sounds playing in harmony. Everyone was cheering to see how Gee-Fus was just calling up every sound to get a piece of the pie. All egos and attitude were put aside so people could see that Reggae selectors can live in love and unity. -------------------------------------- Originally from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Donovan Longmore moved to Connecticut where he hosts a radio show on WFCS (Saturdays 2-4 pm) and another one on WESU 88.1 in Middletown, CT (Sundays 5-8 pm), both entitled "Reggae Voyage."
