| Sitting
on a luxurious sprawling plantation that provides the setting for a beautiful
landscape that seems almost out of this world is the Sandals MoBay Hotel.
It is as interesting and diverse as the people who come to the hotel to
enjoy the sweetness it has to offer.
The first hotel ever acquired by hotel mogul Gordon 'Butch' Stewart in
1951, Sandals MoBay has the highest percentage of returning guests in
Jamaica. And why not? If the many luxurious rooms, mind blowing
entertainment, tempting beach, soothing pools and tantalizing spa are
anything to go by, then it's easy to understand its allure.
According to resident manager, Scott Robbins, the hotel can boast of being
the only one that has a wedding chapel on the property. It was donated
to them by returning guests Frank and Virginia Warren. At Sandals, strong
emphasis is placed on family and togetherness, which is why there is a
monthly staff meeting where members are encouraged to talk about things
that affect their lives. It could be mortgage, health, anything - the
goal is to discuss it and find solutions.
Public relations manager of Sandals MoBay, Marlon Tingling, recently took
the media on a tour of the property. Listed below are some of the many
attractions of the hotel.
Departure
Lounge
Wow, imagine never having the hassle of going to the airport, having your
luggage checked, going through the stress of waiting in long lines to
be checked out. It's all done for guests courtesy of the Air Jamaica check
in counter at the hotel. Guests can take a quick shower or just 'freshen
up' in the bathroom then board the bus for the airport with boarding passes
already in hand one hour before their flight. According to Tingling, this
was instituted seven years ago and is definitely a plus where guests are
concerned.
Frank Warren Chapel
The chapel was built six years ago and was donated by Frank and Virginia
Warren. The first wedding to ever be performed in the newly built chapel
was that of the general manager Horace Peterkin and his wife Dominique.
The chapel seats 80 persons, but according to Marlon Tingling, the guests'
entourage rarely exceeds 15.
Swim Up Bar
If you are swimming and get thirsty - no big deal, you just swim up to
the bar, sit on one of the stools by the bar in the pool and place your
order. The innovative idea doesn't stop there--at nights the swim up bar
is converted to a piano bar where there is nothing but fun and a whole
lot of vibes.
European Spa
The minute you enter the Red Room the aroma of scented oils take over
your nostrils and you feel as if you are being lulled away. The newly
opened spa that was formerly known as Dultra Spa offers several treatment
to guests such as massages of four different kinds:
-- Swedish - medium pressure
- light strokes for first timers.
--Sports - deeper and harder into the muscles for folks who do rigorous
workouts.
--Reflexology - focuses on pressure points.
--Signature massage sampler - combination of all three.
Aroma therapy is done with any
massage using essential oils. Among the other services offered at the
spa are facials, scrubs and waxing.
Sandals' other attractions include
four public hot tubs, a Japanese restaurant, main dining room, an Italian
restaurant and a Jamaican restaurant where, according to Marlon Tingling,
you can “get anything Jamaican you can possibly imagine.”
